Abdulrahman Al-Shami

Professor of Broadcast and Digital Journalism at Qatar University. Prior to joining Qatar University, he was the dean of the Faculty of Mass Communications at Sana’a University. He is member of many Arab and International scientific organisations. Additionally, he has participated in various programmes including the Fulbright Program at Boston University and the Study of the United States Institute for Scholars (SUSIS) at Ohio University. His research focuses on new media and social change, as well as on digital storytelling. He has published over 30 papers in refereed journals.

Mohamed Cheikh

Senior Editor, Proofreader and former Lecturer at Qatar University. He holds a PhD in Communication Sciences. Moreover, he was a journalist and columnist at Al Watan from 1997 to 2005, and has collaborated with Al-Sharq and Al-Arab. Cheikh has published three books: As-Sahafa al-Mauritaniya wa Dawrha fi at-Ta’bi’a as-Siyasiya (“Mauritanian Press and Its Role in Political Mobilisation”), Dawr Wasa’il at-Tawasul fi Thawrat ar-Rabee’ al-‘Arabi (“The Role of Communications in the Arab Spring Revolutions(, and Kalam Jaree’: Majmou’at Maqalat fi al-Adab wa as-Sahafa (“Bold Words: An Anthology of Literature and Journalism). He has also participated in numerous international conferences.

Abdul Hamid Maassarani

Lab Technician at the Department of Mass Communications at Qatar University. He has a master’s degree in Instructional Design and Technology from Emporia State University in the United States. He supports students in their projects and holds workshops on Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Prior to joining Qatar University, he worked for Panda Retail Company in Saudi Arabia, designing leaflets.

Mohammed El-Kafrawey

Media and Communications Designer and Lecturer at the Department of Mass Communications at Qatar University. He specialises in teaching writing and design courses for media and communications outlets, such as visual communication, newspaper design and production, advertisement writing and design, multimedia design, visual imaging, and visual communications programmes and applications. In addition, El-Kafrawey was a researcher at Helwan University specialising in printing and publishing and an assistant professor of visual design at Al-Zahra College for Women in Oman. He has designed various logos, visual identities, publishing and communication media, flyers and books.

Elsayed Elkilany

Lecturer in Print and Online Journalism at Qatar University. His research interests include E-learning and education quality, instructional design, and print and electronic journalism. Moreover, he prepared an academic programme plan in fine arts and reviewed an academic programme in graphic design. He has supervised the projects of hundreds of mass communication students since 2004. In 2009 and 2015, he received the award for Distinguished Faculty Members in Teaching from Sharjah University and Qatar University respectively.

Mohamad Siddiq Hussein Hassan

Chairman of the Conference’s Visual Communication and Publications Committee, Lecturer at the Department of Mass Communications at Qatar University and Teacher at the Faculty of Applied Arts at Helwan University, Department of Printing, Publishing and Packaging. He received the Teaching Excellence Award at the College of Arts and Sciences in 2016, and is an expert in the field of anti-counterfeiting and counterfeiting research and security design for prints of value. His researcher interests include graphic design, new media, visual communication, e-learning methods, press release and security printing design.

Wael Abdelal

Assistant Professor at the Department of Mass Communication at Qatar University. He has a PhD in media strategies from the University of Exeter. Abdelal has numerous publications, including Hamas wa al-I’lam: As-Siyasa wa al-Istratijiya (“Hamas and Media: Policy and Strategy”), as well as a number of studies analyzing Qatari press and its treatment of current events. In addition, he has contributed and reviewed several university books of journalism and mass communication departments in Palestine as part of the media development project in partnership with the UNESCO and the Swedish government.

Mohammad Ali Abdulkarim

Lab Technician at the Department of Mass Communications at Qatar University since 2012. He has a bachelor of science in computer engineering and is an Apple certified technician, certified support professional, certified technical coordinator, and Microsoft certified professional and administrator. He is skilled in audio, video and photo editing as well as photography and videography.

Mohsen Alafranji

academic, journalist, media trainer, and lecturer at Qatar University. He holds a PhD in television media from the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain. He has been working in the fields of media education and journalism for 20 years. He has also worked with several Palestinian and Arab media institutions and founded the Palestinian Network for Humanitarian Media (Ansana). Alafranji has published plenty of media research, the most recent being in a book on digital media published by Routledge.

Fayez Shaheen

Assistant Professor of Broadcast Journalism at the Department of Mass Communication at Qatar University. He lectures courses on producing radio and television news bulletins; preparing news reports, television programmes and documentaries; new media and multimedia. A graduate of the University of Tübingen in Germany, he previously taught at Hebron University in Palestine and practiced journalism for twenty years in various newspapers, radio stations and television stations, including Deutsche Welle. Shaheen has published research on stereotypes and media ethics in many refereed Arab journals.
