Kamal Hamidou

an Associate Professor of Mass Communications at Qatar University. He has a PhD from Panthéon-Assas University Paris II.
He served as the head of and a coordinator for the Department of Mass Communications at Qatar University from 2019 to 2022 and 2018 to 2019 respectively. In addition, he is a member of several international academic associations in the field of media and communications such as the French Society of Information & Communication Sciences (SFSIC) and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). His main research interests are corporate communication and public relations, the sociology of television, and new media and the uses and gratifications of audiences. Hamidou gained professional experience in printed and broadcast journalism from his time at EuroNews and Algerian daily newspapers. He started his academic career at the University of Metz in France and served at United Arab Emirates University, before joining Qatar University in 2014. He has published plenty of research and studies in Arab, French, British and Malaysian refereed scientific journals as well as in academic conference proceedings.

Abdalmotalab Makki

Assistant Professor of Mass Communications at Qatar University. He holds a PhD in journalism from Omdurman Islamic University. He served as an advisor to the Sudanese Minister of Culture in 1992 and the deputy chairman of the cultural sector in the Council of Sudanese Scholars and Experts Abroad. Makki has long experience in the journalism industry, and has established and managed a number of prestigious media institutions. He has 32 years of experience in leadership positions in the media and journalism domain,15 of which as editor-in-chief of the Qatari daily, Al Sharq. Moreover, he is involved in community service relating to social responsibility in Qatar and the issues of labourers, the environment, and community development. He was selected among a group of experts to prepare the 2015 Family Strategy in the State of Qatar. His research interests include print and digital journalism and content production technology in new media. He has published five books on media editing, four publications on various community activities, and a number of refereed studies.

Elsayed Elkilany

Lecturer in Print and Online Journalism at Qatar University. His research interests include E-learning and education quality, instructional design, and print and electronic journalism. Moreover, he prepared an academic programme plan in fine arts and reviewed an academic programme in graphic design. He has supervised the projects of hundreds of mass communication students since 2004. In 2009 and 2015, he received the award for Distinguished Faculty Members in Teaching from Sharjah University and Qatar University respectively.

Ely Cheikh Isselmou Ahmed maaloum

Graphic Designer at Al Jazeera Media Network. He is responsible for designing Al Jazeera Centre for Studies’ publications, particularly books and journals (i.e. Lubab, Al Jazeera li Dirasat al-Itisal wa al-I’lam and the Strategic Report) as well as for conference and seminar designs. He specialises in media and communications and has over ten years of experience in graphic design and 2D and 3D animation.

Mohsen Alafranji

Academic, journalist, media trainer, and lecturer at Qatar University. He holds a PhD in television media from the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain. He has been working in the fields of media education and journalism for 20 years. He has also worked with several Palestinian and Arab media institutions and founded the Palestinian Network for Humanitarian Media (Ansana). Alafranji has published plenty of media research, the most recent being in a book on digital media published by Routledge.

Wael Abdelal

An Assistant Professor at the Department of Mass Communication at Qatar University. He has a PhD in media strategies from the University of Exeter. Abdelal has numerous publications, including Hamas wa al-I’lam: As-Siyasa wa al-Istratijiya (“Hamas and Media: Policy and Strategy”), as well as a number of studies analyzing Qatari press and its treatment of current events. In addition, he has contributed and reviewed several university books of journalism and mass communication departments in Palestine as part of the media development project in partnership with the UNESCO and the Swedish government.

Mohamad Siddiq Hussein Hassan

Chairman of the Conference’s Visual Communication and Publications Committee, Lecturer at the Department of Mass Communications at Qatar University and Teacher at the Faculty of Applied Arts at Helwan University, Department of Printing, Publishing and Packaging. He received the Teaching Excellence Award at the College of Arts and Sciences in 2016, and is an expert in the field of anti-counterfeiting and counterfeiting research and security design for prints of value. His researcher interests include graphic design, new media, visual communication, e-learning methods, press release and security printing design.
